What it is. Ultrasound uses sound waves to show nerves, muscles, tendons and joints on a screen in real time. This allows the needle to be guided precisely to the target, and the spread of the medicine to be watched as it is given. It involves no radiation and is used for many injections, nerve blocks and nerve treatments.
Who it may help. People having many types of nerve and joint injections, especially around the shoulder, arm, leg, trunk and head, where the structures can be seen clearly on ultrasound.
