Thermal & Pulsed Radiofrequency

What it is. Radiofrequency energy can be used in two ways. Thermal radiofrequency uses controlled heat to make a tiny lesion that interrupts pain signals from a nerve. Pulsed radiofrequency uses short bursts of energy at a lower temperature, aiming to change how the nerve sends signals without destroying it.

Who it may help. People with nerve-related pain where either approach may be suitable. The evidence for pulsed radiofrequency is mixed, so your doctor will discuss how likely each is to help you.
