What it is. Peripheral nerve stimulation places a thin wire (lead) near a nerve that is causing pain. The lead is connected to a small stimulator that sends gentle electrical pulses to change pain signals, often felt as a mild tingling. A trial period usually comes first, so you can see how much it helps before deciding whether to continue.
Who it may help. People with ongoing pain from a specific nerve, such as after injury or surgery, when simpler treatments have not been enough.
